These images were originally captured on Fujichrome slide film back on 30th May 2004 when two blocks of flats built in the 1960s in Hirwaun were given the treatment they deserved and raised to the ground. Why anyone thought it a good idea to build these monstrosities in the Welsh countryside just outside the Brecon Beacons National Park is beyond me, but no doubt they were cheap and necessary to accommodate the families of miners working in the nearby Tower Colliery. The original slides have been scanned and aligned to show the destruction of both towers captured at approximately 1/4 s intervals.Images of the flats being built in the 1960s can be viewed HERE. |
